Law Library Materials and Resources
The Law Library contains a vast array of resources for legal research.
The bulk of the materials are located on the first floor of the library, but many useful titles
may be found on the Mezzannine level. The following is an illustrative, non-exhaustive list
of some of the key items available in the library.
Main Floor
The first floor houses the core collection of research materials in the Shelby County Law Library.

The center aisle contains research materials organized by subject area. Legal areas of note include Bankruptcy, Workers' Compensation, Family Law, and many more.
The Corpus Juris Secundum, American Law Reports, American Jurisprudence, Proof of Facts, Restatements, Words and Phrases, and other legal aides are also available on the main floor.
Justice Andrew O. Holmes Reading Room
The Reading Room contains most of the library's collection of Tennessee Law plus periodical literature. The Reading Room houses the Tennessee Digests,
Tennessee Code Annotated, Tennessee Jurisprudence, Tennessee Public Acts, Tennessee Attorney General Opinions, and the Official Rules and Regulations of the State of Tennessee. The Reading Room also houses the old Tennessee Chancery Reports, Tennessee Appellate Reports, and the Tennessee Court of Civil Appeals Reports. The current Tennessee Decisions are also found in the Reading Room. The Reserve Room, which adjoins the Reading Room, contains additional Tennessee Materials.
The Tennessee Attorney General no longer publishes it's opinions through the slip opinion service as of January 2000. The Attorney General's Opinions are accessible online at www.attorneygeneral.state.tn.us.
The Tennessee Supreme Court Opinions are also available on the Internet at www.tsc.state.tn.us
Reserve Room
The Reserve Room is located in the center of the library behind the Information Desk. It is a Ready-Reference room.
Second Floor
Memphis City Directories
The Law Library has the largest collection of Memphis City Directories outside the Main Branch of the Memphis and Shelby County Public Library.

Law Reviews
The Law Library has an extensive collection of updated law review materials located on the second floor. The Index to Legal Periodicals & Books is also found on the second floor, and is helpful when researching law reviews. The collection includes:

English Reports
The Law Library has nearly a complete edition of the English Reports, which includes both the Queen and King's Bench.
Historical Tennessee Collection
The Law Library has a collection of some of the past editions of the Tennessee
Code Annotated, which is helpful for historical research. The second floor also contains some older editions of the Tennessee Public Acts, and some older editions of the Tennessee House Journal and Senate Journal. The Laws of North Carolina, which were published in 1800, may be helpful with Tennessee historical research, and may be found in the library office.
Historical State Reporters
The library has a collection of historical state reporters, which includes all state reporters that were published before the West Regional Reporters. One collection of significance is the Territory of Alaska Reports.
Labor Law
The second floor contains a collection of the Labor Cases and the Employment Practice Decisions.

Old Text Books
The Law Library contains a variety of old textbooks on the second floor. One volume set of significance is the Commentaries on the Laws of England by Sir William Blackstone edited by Thomas M. Cooley.
The Commercial Appeal
The library has a collection of older editions of The Commercial Appeal from 1966-1989.
