Law Library Services

  • Text Resources

  •      The library contains thousands of titles for legal research, ranging from Reporters and Digests to treatises and law reviews. For a more complete description, visit the materials and resources page of this site, or go to our online catalog to search for a specific title.

  • Internet and WESTLAW

  •       The library offers high-speed broadband Internet, networked for all the computers in the law library. The most popular use is for access to Westlaw research, Thomson-West's massive online legal database. Attorneys, judges, clerks and law students may use this resource free of charge with the law library's Westlaw account.

The computers may also be used for text editing and other typical technology needs. Each computer contains standard software that is needed by those in the legal profession. We have also recently added the ability to create files in the PDF format, required by many courts that prefer electronic data submission. For more information contact us through email, telephone, or simply stop by and speak with a staff member.

  • Copying and Printing

  •       Photocopiers are available in the library, for a fee of twenty five cents per copy. This charge also applies to printing from the computers in the library. Copying and printing requires the use of a prepaid print card, which may be purchased from the library in amounts from $1.50 to $20.00.

  • Material Check-Out

  •       While a large portion of the library's materials may only be used inside the library, many resources may be checked out for a short period of time. Reporters, digests and other similar titles may be taken from the library by lawyers, judges and clerks for three-day periods. Inquire with a staff member about checking out one of our texts.

  • Justice Andrew O. Holmes Reading Room

  •       This area of the library houses the majority of the library's Tennessee materials. You will also find many of the library's periodicals here, such as The Commercial Appeal, Tennesse Bar Journal, Memphis Lawyer, The Memphis Business Journal, The National Law Journal, along with various state and national legal newsletters.
